Special Time

As you've seen, I've been spending a lot of time with my grandparents this month. First, I came in and spent time with grandma photographing her while grandpa was away for the day. Then I came back and photographed grandpa. Last, I photographed grandma and grandpa.

We are a catholic family, so the first two times that I went to Johnstown to visit was Ash Wednesday and one Friday during lent. It was nice visiting my grandparents because as we continued our visits we started a routine for our photography sessions. Once I arrived, we would talk, eat lunch and then continue with our photography session. We had a lot of fun during these sessions, and its been really nice having the opportunity to share my time and talents with my grandparents. Here are the last few photos of our photography sessions.

A Day at the Office

Yesterday I was visiting with my nephews and when the opportunity arose I couldn't help, but take advantage of the moment.

While his brother was sleeping, Jericho had a major deal to make. He worked through the night to get what he needed. He even made time to speak to his mother. It was a long day at the office, but he made it.

The Power of Love

I created an ad for Asukabooks, which are commonly used for wedding albums. The people in the photos include my grandparents, Abe and Rose Herrera, Shellene Ellington's pregnant belly and her with her daughter Mallory, and Brian and Caroline Davis.

This creation inspired me to create my own layouts for my portfolio this spring.

Grandpa

A few weeks after taking grandma's picture I went back to take grandpa's picture. Grandpa speaks Spanish and sometimes forgets that I only speak English. Its okay because I enjoy listening to grandpa speak. One phrase in Spanish I did learn was "ponce llena y corozon contenta."

The Wedding Reception

The party started as a very small idea to build my portfolio and to practice weddings during the down season. It started out as a really small idea with only a few friends, but as time went on the idea grew and it became a party. As the days grew closer to the party, the idea got bigger and became a way for me to market myself as a photographer. The mock wedding party included the bride, Erika Hoffman, a local actress in Denver, the mock groom, Patrick Mercado, a local writer, the mock best man was Peter Braam and the mock of honor as she liked to call herself was Jenny Nansel. They all did a wonderful job. These photos can be found in the "Feature Gallery" on my website at www.HerreraPhotography.biz.

Mallory

As I mentioned before, I have a new camera now so I'll be updating my blog pretty often. In the middle of the week last week, I felt inspired to go up to the mountains so I called a really good friend of mine who is pregnant and due in about a week to see what she was doing. I went over for lunch and to photograph her almost two year old in the snow. We had a great time!

Catholic Charities Billboard

The assignment was to create a billboard for a public service group. I've recently seen more billboards for Catholic Charities and have felt like this is a genre of photography I would like to try. The actual billboards can be found at http://www.catholiccharitiesdenver.org/Catholic-Charities-New-Identi.aspx. Here's my take of this series minus the text.

Grandma's Portrait

As I recently purchased my new camera, I've been looking for people to photograph on the side. One of my most favorite subjects is my grandmother. Yesterday Grandma Rose sat for me allowing me to photograph her from all angles, so that we could get the right photo to give as a Valentine to grandpa. I think we succeeded!
